Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants of Howard Lifshitz's buildings report generally responsive and helpful supers, with some praised for quick maintenance and pest control efforts. Management responsiveness varies; some sites face slow or ineffective repair, particularly with heating and common area upkeep. Cleanliness and garbage management are usually adequate, though occasional pest and maintenance issues arise. Noise can be a concern near nightlife venues, and older buildings sometimes have small apartments and dated infrastructure. Some renters note poor communication and dissatisfaction with landlord attitude in specific cases. Overall, tenants find the properties livable with room for improvement in maintenance timeliness and building modernization.

Great spot to live, with some caveats

Pros

The area is excellent. I truly enjoy being so close to 1st Ave - also it is not nearly as noisy as living on an avenue. The neighbors are great, other than the kids who live downstairs and love DJing into the odd hours of the night. Haven't seen any pests in a while, only a few cockroaches when we first moved in (hole was patched by management). However it isn't an overwhelming problem.

Cons

The super doesn't really do anything. You really have be on top of it and keep pestering him to fix any problem. He's a really nice guy, just a bit lazy. Additionally, the radiator in my room did not work at all. It kept making a clunking noise throughout the night, and when I asked the super to fix it, he tried to replace the valve/increase the angle. However, this did not work. I used a space heater for the rest of the winter. I think it's a problem within the building pipes that need much bigger repairs.
