Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant reviews of buildings managed by Tom Michaeli reveal generally well-maintained properties with good cleanliness, strong pest control, and adequate water pressure. Tenants value the responsive and respectful management, appreciating modern amenities and convenient features like in-unit laundry. However, some concerns include occasional delays in addressing maintenance requests, noise due to thin walls, and neighboring issues. Rent increases pose a concern for long-term affordability, especially in non-rent stabilized units. Management is commended for listening to feedback and maintaining open communication, but further attention to soundproofing and consistent common area upkeep would enhance tenant satisfaction.

Enjoyed living here!

Pros

Spacious unit and convenient location. Bluetooth speakers in unit were a nice touch and convenient access to laundry in basement

Cons

Walls were a bit thin. Sometimes took management a while to get back on some requests, but they eventually did and were responsive overall

3-yr tenant. Lovely apartment and respectful mgmt

Pros

Well maintained Modern appliances including washer dryer in unit Lovely neighbors and apartments are well insulated for sound Pet friendly w no deposit required Responsive and respectful management company, super is also kind and respectful but he is managing a lot of properties so he will get to you but it’s a matter of prioritization/urgency. I actually tried to find my new apartment with this mgmt co as they manage many properties and I’ve had a good experience. (But found somewhere else that met my needs) I recommend this building and management company (Brooklyn Green Development).

Cons

Moving out mostly because I’m moving to a new larger space with my partner. But may have moved out anyway as rent continues to climb by a couple hundred dollars each year. Going forward I don’t think the cost will feel worth the value from a square footage standpoint. Apartment is comfortable and lovely but I can find a better deal for same quality/ more space. However, if you are in good standing landlord has been receptive to discussing the amount of the annual rent increase. You do have to ask the management company to clean the common stairwell and foyer, otherwise it won’t be cleaned, but they are prompt in doing so when you reach out so not too big of a deal. Split A/C in each room that is also your source of heat which is nice, but in summer and winter your electric bill will be high, $120-250 depending on usage and ConEd rates. In winter I used plastic covering on windows in the bedrooms for added insulation as they are drafty.

Advice to the owners

Keep your mgmt co - they treat your tenants like people. Consider how raising rent so much each year will impact retention of quality tenants - in short time this rate of increase will become unsustainable and noncompetitive for the area.
