Great units, wonderful neighbors, terrible management
Former Tenant
Pros:
- units are huge and you have great views!
- most of the neighbors are very kind and wonderful! Some of the folks on our floor were so wonderful and welcoming (not a norm for NYC)
- proximity to the 1 train and Food Town
Cons:
- apartment got VERY hot in the winter and only relief was keeping the windows open
- We had an unstoppable roach issue on a very high floor. We had an elderly neighbor beneath us who was clearly going through some health issues and we believe was hoarding food. The entire floor beneath us smelled HORRIBLE the second you stopped off the elevator and as a result our unit directly above her and other neighbors had unstoppable pest issues. There was so much back-and-forth with management, the co-op board, social workers from the city and no would do ANYTHING. Unfortunately 311 didn’t lead anywhere since the neighbor didn’t give the city permission to view her inhabitable apartment… We had to break our lease after 8 months thankfully our individual owner was kind enough to let us do so!
Advice to owner:
I know the Morningside Garden co-op is a Naturally Occurring Retirement Community and I totally support allowing folks to age in their own home, but it must be done SAFELY and have the health and safety of everyone in the building considered.
