Old building with old building problems
Pros
Having a relatively hands-off landlord allows for more freedom to renovate the apartment, make changes, and have it go unnoticed. The building is prewar and does have some charming elements. The neighborhood has excellent amenities close by.
Cons
Had to endure a long period with mice and roaches because the baseboards and walls were chewed through. The building also doesn't provide heat, despite being rent-stabilized. There were several instances of the water being shut off without notice due to problems with pipes and water mains. Hot water runs out sometimes, too, especially during the winter. Plus, the building stinks like curry. You can't get rid of it.

Good location close to riverside park as well as the 1 train. Building is pretty quiet but outdoor areas nearby can be noisy at times. Decent sized rooms.
Cons
Difficult at times to get in touch with management. Key fobs often don't work.
