Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Tenants report mixed experiences with buildings managed by Shmaryahu Baumgarten. Positives include spacious apartments, decent locations, and respectful neighbors in some buildings. However, management responsiveness is frequently criticized as slowor unresponsive, with multiple complaints about pest infestations, poor garbage management, and inadequate cleanliness. Heating and water pressure issues are sometimes reported, and noise disturbances affect certain buildings. Some renters mention alleged discriminatory practices and neglect, urging management to improve communication, maintenance, and tenant treatment. Overall, while the buildings have potential, renters should be prepared for inconsistent management quality and ongoing maintenance challenges.

Building management can be lowkey racist? And not great at communicating with tenants about changes and work being done in the building

Management Company = Slumlords
Former Tenant
Pros:
Beautiful old building Great neighbors and neighborhood Apartments are more spacious than the average NY apartment bc of when the building was built
Cons:
Management is neglectful. The building is dirty, rodent/pest infested and garbage isn’t disposed of regularly.
The management company has been known to harass its “older” (re: nonwhite) tenants in attempts to get them to move out of the building so they can hike up the rent for new tenants.
Management company is not responsive. Can take weeks or months to get someone to fix heat, water damage or any other issues that are bound to come up in these old buildings (I know of a few tenants whose issues were just ignored)
