Building is meh but what can you do
Pros
Good location, the super is really nice, elevator,
Cons
Laundry in the basement has been a journey. When I first moved in, we didn't have laundry at all and had to go across the street. Now we have laundry (4 washers, 4 dryers) but NONE of the dryers work. You have to run them several times in order for your clothes to get dry. No matter how many times I call to get them fixed, they still don't work. - We get a lot of package theft in the building. If your package wasn't dropped off at your front door, good luck finding it. I've asked the building management many times to add a camera or a lock to the front door, but they said there is nothing they can do. - The front door does not have a lock, so you can enter the vestibule without a key. We get a lot of kids and non-tenants hotboxing the vestibule, who get aggressive if you ask them to leave. We've called the super about them, but he doesn't kick them out. I've had to call the police twice for people in the vestibule. We also get unhoused people sleeping in there from time to time, especially in the winter.
Advice to the owners
Please for the love of god, get a handle on the laundry. Don't give us new machines, charge us MORE per load, and then leave them broken. I love living here, but you increase my rent STEEPLY every year (proximity to the hospital, I get it) and the least you can do is come through on your amenities offered in the building.
Big space but terriable super
Pros
- Big space for relatively low price (2023-2024)
Cons
- Horrible super * I spent 15min in person, after many unanswered calls/texts, convincing him to fix a simple cabinet door. But he didn't until the door almost fell on him while I recorded it. * There's almost always one washer or dryer that's not working - Predatory agents * It was my first time renting and I wasn't fully told the consequences of being on a lease with random people. Though it's my fault ultimately (18 at the time), I tried asking about it multiple times but I felt pressured to sign.
Advice to the owners
Hire less predatory agents and do subleases for rooms being ocuppied by strangers. Fire the current Super and get someone more competant. If he hadn't been there and almost got hit by the cabinet, that could've been me. And because I had security cameras, you'd have a lawsuit on your desk
