Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for buildings managed by Nathan Chess reveals a mix of positive and negative experiences. Tenants appreciate well-sized apartments, convenient locations, and generally responsive superintendents. Buildings are often quiet with good garbage management and ample water pressure. However, issues persist with outdated appliances, occasional pest problems, and pre-war characteristics like uneven floors and overly hot heating systems in winter. Complaints about cleanliness, slow owner responsiveness, and neglected repairs occasionally surface. While many tenants approve of the management and recommend the buildings, there is a clear call for improved maintenance, timely communication, and better upkeep to enhance tenant satisfaction.

Good pre-war apartment with small issues

Pros

The studios are pretty big, above average in size. Maybe around 350 sq ft Pay by check through mail; can be late a few days Live-in super is usually responsive and nice but you'll still need to tip a little Extremely quiet (depending on if you're facing the street) No vagrants around; good location for transit, food, West Side highway, etc.

Cons

Some bugs enter the apartment year-round; get bug bites occasionally Slightly slanted floor Pre-war apartment, so there are water pipes that provide heat through thermal radiation. During the winter, it's so hot that you have to open the window and use a fan to blow air in; I had to purchase a window screen from Home Depot. My window unit A/C doesn't work when the outside air is cold.

Solid Place to Live

Pros

The super and his friend I found mostly helpful when there were issues, especially when I had a leak.

Cons

The guy under me was a complete nut job.
