Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for buildings managed by Sheldon Hoffman reveals consistent challenges with management responsiveness and building maintenance. Tenants frequently report poor communication, unprofessional staff behavior, and significant pest control issues, particularly roaches. While some buildings benefit from a dedicated super who keeps common areas clean, overall upkeep is lacking with deteriorating facilities and slow or absent repairs. Garbage management and cleanliness receive mixed reviews, with some buildings appearing neglected. Despite these concerns, tenants occasionally praise friendly neighbors and desirable locations. The management is often seen as indifferent, prioritizing rent collection over tenant welfare, leading many renters to advise more attentive, proactive care from management.

New Owners Letting It Deteriorate

Pros

Apartment was renovated when I moved in.

Cons

Big roach issue in the basement, hallways, and compactor rooms. Pest control doesn't seem to be doing much. New owners and management are letting the building deteriorate. Grass drying out in the back, plants dying, hallways falling apart, basement tiles cracked (safety hazard), and so on. Doorman's hours cut because of a stupid useless Butterfly MX system that requires so many steps to unlock. New listings are significantly higher for no amenities or improvements. This building is falling apart. This building is owned by terrible finance bros at Cedar Park Capital and run by slumlords at Nieuw Amsterdam Property Management. Tenants will surely see no improvements.

Advice to the owners

Extreme Dissatisfaction with Nieuw Amsterdam Management - A Warning to Prospective Tenants

Pros

The location and absolute friendliness of the neighbors.

Cons

Where to start: My experience with Nieuw Amsterdam property management has been profoundly negative, reaching a level of unprofessionalism and incompetence that warrants a strong warning to anyone considering renting from them. Communication from this management company is consistently abysmal. Despite submitting multiple tickets, follow-up is virtually non-existent. Attempts to escalate issues to the main office were met with significant pushback, making it clear that tenants are actively discouraged from seeking resolution through higher channels. Key individuals such as CHAY BRITO and Gabriel Stone have demonstrated a troubling lack of professionalism and courtesy. My direct interactions, particularly with Ms. Brito, were marked by a consistently condescending and dismissive tone. Their inability to effectively manage tenant concerns, respond to inquiries in a timely manner, or communicate clearly indicates a fundamental deficiency in basic professional conduct and time management. Beyond the management issues, the property itself was presented in a substandard condition. Tenants should be aware of potential issues including significant pest control problems (specifically roaches) and overall poor maintenance standards, exemplified by superficial paint finishes that mask deeper issues. While the location of these apartments might seem appealing, I cannot overstate the detrimental impact that such consistently poor management has on the living experience. The stress, wasted time, and lack of support from Nieuw Amsterdam, and specifically the named individuals, far outweigh any perceived benefits. I strongly advise prospective tenants to look elsewhere. You will save yourself considerable frustration and discomfort by avoiding Nieuw Amsterdam and any dealings with Chay Brito and Gabriel Stone. My hope is that this review helps others avoid a similar distressing experience.

Advice to the owners

Please for the love of god and all things holy, FIRE CHAY BRITO and get new staff that is actually responsive and tenant concern oriented.
