The walls are extremely thin, you can hear everything going on in the apartment next to you. My window was broken all winter long. At first they tried to suggest that I broke it (I came into the apartment that way) and I went thru winter with super high Con-Ed bills because they "could not" replace the window until spring time. We came into the apartment with damage and unpainted walls. When we left, the owner tried to hold our security deposit in full and say that we did that. LUCKILY I had a video and they gave back our security deposit -$400 for "cleaning fees"-- the receipt was obviously fake, and we cleaned the apartment according to the terms outlined on the lease (sweep clean, wipe down all appliances) but were so exhausted from fighting for our deposit back we just let it be. Also, in what world is it ever $400 to clean anything that is empty and less that 250sqft? Funny enough, I spoke to the tenants in my unit before me (found on Facebook) and they also did not receive their security deposit back, yet the management never cleaned the apartment or repaired any of the holes or painted any of the walls.... so where did that money go? Interesting. After speaking to many of my neighbors (3 of us were moving out at the same time) nobody got their security deposits back so.... maybe my advice is just dont pay the last month of your lease if you know you are not re-signing. OH and another thing to note-- the laundry machines are all second hand so they all have issues and will fuck up your clothes at some point or another, AND if you tap your card at just the right time, it'll eat your money. Beware! ALSO-- the elevator is OFTEN OUT OF SERVICE for days (minimum 2) at a time.
Advice to the owners
you are crooks who steal money, overprice for a poorly constructed building as is obvious by the walls, you don't pay the maintenance man nearly even half of what you should for all the work he does for you-- he maintains that building, not you. You are part of the problem with the world, prioritizing profit over quality of life for your tenants that already pay you well, fare wages for your worker, and you keep peoples deposits without ever fixing the apartments for the next tenants? SHAME ON YOU.
