Review Summary for Brandon Hornbeck
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant feedback about Brandon Hornbeck's buildings highlights a mix of strengths and challenges. Management is often seen as responsive and friendly in some buildings, with residents appreciating cleanliness, well-kept common areas, and good neighborly environments. However, there are significant concerns over pest control issues like mice and ants, aging infrastructure with plumbing and heating problems, and reports of expensive rent increases that some tenants view as excessive. Communication and follow-up can be inconsistent, particularly during move-outs and maintenance requests. Prospective renters should expect a varied experience depending on the specific building, with some units better maintained than others.

Landlord is greedy
Former Tenant
Pros:
Apartment was decent.
Cons:
Had some issues with mice and a sewer like smell coming from the laundry closet. And water bugs. Landlord looks for huge rent increases each year.
Advice to owner:
Value good tenants. Huge rent increases demonstrate your greed.

Boutique Brownstone, comfortable, but cheaply built
Former Tenant
Pros:
Clean, central heat/AC, spacious apartments, pretty responsive landlord
Cons:
Very cheap renovation of large brownstone, paper-thin walls, lack of privacy both between neighbors and within apartment because of this. Very expensive, recent extreme rent gouging
Advice to owner:
Make an effort to retain good tenants

Old Building, Not Well Maintained
Former Tenant
Pros:
Good neighborhood, super is responsive, beautiful pre-war units.
Cons:
Very old and not well maintained - major plumbing issues, heat has gone out for several days in a row in the middle of winter (only repaired when all tenants complained and we called a repairman ourselves), price of units increase significantly while building falls apart, electricity is not properly set up by unit.
Advice to owner:
Take care of your building

Management is eh…
Former Tenant
Pros:
Neighbors; elevator; outdoor space
Cons:
When we moved out they charged us on our security for maintenance that we were still waiting on them to come complete while we were tenants (caulking) & for missing screens that we were told that they didn’t want to have made & we didn’t need because the windows were made to not open all the way. We were charged for furniture we left for the tenants moving in, which was made in a written agreement with management and real estate agent. Never responded to our emails. There are constant ants, no matter how clean your apartment is, no matter how much raid you spray, or when the exterminator comes.
