Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants renting from Erez Levy often experience poor management characterized by slow or unresponsive maintenance, especially concerning flooding, pest infestations, and heating issues. Cleanliness and garbage management frequently fall below expectations, with recurring pest problems and trash accumulation causing discomfort. While some buildings offer modern amenities and decent neighbors, several tenants highlight a lack of transparency and concern from management, including inadequate snow removal and unresolved alarm disturbances. Despite occasional positive notes on apartment features and location, renters commonly advise improvements in responsiveness, communication, and overall building upkeep to foster a safer and more comfortable living environment.

Basement flooding and foul odors

Pros

One of the reasons we chose the apartment was because of the patio. The area is also very commercial, with bars and restaurants, and a park relatively nearby; the zone is very quiet.

Cons

During my two years living at 60 Jefferson Street, Apt. 1B, Brooklyn, NY 11206, I can honestly say that management shows little concern for either the building or its tenants. We experienced four to five flooding incidents each year—not only due to rainwater, but also because of plumbing issues involving both black and gray water. Management was consistently slow to address these situations, taking too long to remove the water and properly dry the affected areas. This delay only worsened conditions, resulting in days of foul odors and creating an environment that could pose serious health risks. Additionally, when cleaning was carried out, proper disinfection—an essential step—was often neglected. The heating system does not reach the basement, making that part of the apartment effectively uninhabitable. Lastly, the accumulation of trash outside the building attracts rats and cockroaches, further contributing to an unacceptable living environment and ultimately making it very difficult to continue living in this property.

Advice to the owners

They should be transparent when renting out the apartment—specifically by disclosing the existing flooding issues, as this is a critical factor when making important life decisions. They should also resolve the problem once and for all; doing so would demonstrate genuine respect for the people who live there.

typical NY landlord

Pros

The management was hard to get a hold of and difficult to get any requests taken care of. They were definitely a small company and not great with customer service which of course is to be expected. Not the worst landlord ever but nothing special

Cons

Walk up, limited laundry machines in basement
