Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for buildings managed by Scott Castellano reveals ongoing challenges in management responsiveness and building upkeep. Many tenants report slow or inadequate maintenance responses, frequent heating and pest control issues, and persistent problems with garbage management and cleanliness. Repairs are often described as temporary fixes rather than lasting solutions. While neighbors and community feel are generally positive in several properties, the management's lack of attentiveness undermines the living experience. Some properties have engaged and helpful supers, but overall, tenants express frustration with management’s perceived focus on profit over proper building care, urging significant improvements in communication and maintenance.

Reviews

Cozy and decent if you put the work in

Pros

The location and neighborhood are great, we love all the local businesses. Apartments are pretty generously sized for the area. Active tenants' coalition!

Cons

Management is difficult to reason with. Repairs are often short lived or half measures. The building needs major restorative work that the owner refuses to pay for. Some units are far less problematic than others. Staying on top of making maintenance requests plus 311 complaints tends to yield passable results, but it takes a lot of effort to stay on top of it all.

Advice to the owners

Sugar Hill Capital, stop being cheap soulless ghosts! If you want to make money off of withholding housing (a human right) you are legally an morally obligated to maintain it! Get it together, or just cut the losses and drop the building.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Gorgeous pre-war character, some really great neighbors in the building and on the street. Spacious and lots to do in the neighborhood. Property management co typically resolves issues within 3-5 days. Super is very responsive, but he is useless and can’t fix anything himself.

Cons

There is one man that lives in the building that brings in items from th street almost daily and puts them in the front hallway. He also steals packages. The boiler has gone out on multiple occasions leaving all tenants with no heat or hot water for up to 48hrs. The building is across from a school and traffic is very loud on school days.
