Not the cleanest- cockroaches

Pros

The apartment I was in was a decent size with a separate kitchen, which was a plus. There used to be a super who was very nice and kept the place clean (would sweep and mop the common areas regularly and collect mail) but it’s been worse since they left. I’ve also never had an issue with the other tenants in this building. Generally, everyone is very kind.

Cons

Cockroaches everywhere. I’m extremely clean and never leave dishes overnight/wipe down my counters every night/sweep every night and I still couldn’t get rid of them. I started leaving out traps and there would be 10 dead in the morning (small baby roaches) in my cupboards. They’re all over the building- I would see them in the hallways frequently too. A lot of the windows are broken as well, or at least they were in my apartment. That is probably part of the issue with the bugs- no screens and some windows don’t close completely. The water pressure is fine but the water doesn’t stay hot. It will change to either ice cold or burning hot all throughout your shower. There were no smoke detectors or C02 detectors when I moved in. I had to buy my own because at the time I didn’t know how to contact the landlord to ask for them. At one point over the winter I realized that my bedroom window would leak any time it rained. One night there was a storm and I woke up to a soaked bed. I had to put out pots and pans to catch the water. I believe this issue was fixed however, because in the spring months the roof was fixed and that seemed to resolve the issue. I wasn’t given any contact information upon move in. I eventually was able to ask someone for a number to call and was given a number for the management company. They’re pretty good with submitting requests in a timely manner but the side of the management company that deals with leases is difficult to work with. Any time I’ve had a question about my lease it takes weeks to get in touch with the woman who works with this building and then she tells you she’ll have to call you back and generally doesn’t. Definitely would not spend the money I did to live here again. Might be worth it if the prices have come down due to COVID and you’re ok with bugs.

Advice to the owners

Fix the windows and anything else that’s contributing to the cockroach problem. The building needs to be cleaned more frequently. You should also have more transparency regarding management and how to get in contact with the management company, especially if there is no super.
