BEWARE OF RENTING FROM THE 'SLUM LORD'

Pros

The apartment is located in a LOVELY area.

Cons

If you're considering renting a unit from a landlord with the initials MK, BEWARE. He's commonly referred to as the "slumlord" by other owners in the building for a reason. Despite presenting himself as a decent person, his actions speak otherwise. While he might wish you a happy birthday, he’ll turn around and accuse you of being unreasonable for requesting any repairs. During my tenancy, I dealt with a serious mouse infestation that persisted the entire time. He did next to nothing to address the issue, forcing me to hire my own exterminator. The unit itself was also poorly maintained, with several safety hazards, including a malfunctioning fire door and an ancient, dangerously outdated oven, neither of which he took responsibility for fixing. Any repair he agreed to was done as cheaply and ineffectively as possible. MK also has no respect for personal boundaries. While I was moving out, he insisted on scheduling showings, even when I explicitly told him I was in meetings. Throughout my stay, the front door lock was broken, and when it finally gave out, I had to hire and pay for a locksmith myself. In short, this landlord will make you feel overwhelmed with problems and show no accountability. Please think twice before renting from him—you’ll be dealing with constant issues and a landlord who simply doesn’t care. PLEASE, PLEASE avoid this nightmare.

Advice to the owners
