Illegally Destabilized Units

Pros

Prior to the fire, the building had nice large layouts, affordable rent, and great neighbors.

Cons

Terrible, non-responsive landlords. Was nice that they left us alone, but terrible when water damage, heat or water failed, any repairs needed, were ineffective and avoidant. We discovered we had been illegally destabilized, as well. If you rent in this building, EVEN AFTER the renovations from the fire, you have STILL been illegally destabilized.

Advice to the owners

There's nothing to suggest, they won't listen, they are in it for the money only and resent having to do their jobs.

The building is workable but the Owner is a notorious slumlord

Pros

The pro was their unit's space that I believe they've since redone to make their floor plans more restrictive.

Cons

The management company is run by incredibly shady people. They were in court with every tenant over illegally destabilizing their rent-stabilization status. Their "3 bedrooms" were actually 2 bedrooms with an illegal loft they charged more for, which was not properly insulated and had gaps between the siding so significant you could see sunlight stream in. The basement of the building frequently smelled of rotting flesh due to the dead rats and once the vestibule was filled with swarming bugs that had been nesting in one of their lighting fixtures until it broke. The only reason they've likely fixed any of these issues was because the building was part of a massive fire that forced City Inspectors to evaluate the ruins. They may be neglecting to properly repair any damage given that their track record.
