lived here at the start of the pandemic
Pros
Great apartment unit, close to train, immediately responsive when we had a mouse
Cons
My roommate was harassed for rent by management at the start of the pandemic. This was when NY unemployment was so backed up that people weren’t even getting their checks yet. Just a few weeks into lockdown. Not only did they consistently pester via phone contact, even after explaining there was an outstanding balance because someone was suddenly unemployed and the unemployment was backed up state-wide, they had their accountant track my roommates tax information. They sent my roommate a letter in the mail saying they saw a stimulus check was on the way and that they expected rent to be paid as soon as it was received. To assume that stimulus was not necessary for anything else such as food or other daily necessities is inhumane, and to continue harassing someone during a global pandemic that hit New York City the hardest was extremely unethical and inappropriate. Especially knowing they suddenly lost their means of income and had nothing coming in at all besides that initial stimulant. I don’t know what they expected someone who’s unemployment had not been processed to do, but going as far as to pay or ask and accountant to find out when someone’s stimulus is arriving shows that it was not an issue of scarcity of resources, but a desire to assert power and harass someone during a global crisis.
Advice to the owners
To be considerate of humans and the fact that tenants are paying your mortgage for you.
