Great apartment until the utility bills kick in…

Pros

Modern appliances Great lighting and windows Storage unit in the basement for each apartment in the building Excellent location Washer and dryer in the basement Regular trash pickup Responsive Super

Cons

Due to how the building was built, the electricity bills per unit are insanely high ($400+ a month). We talked to neighbors and they had the same experience. Expect to pay thousands to Con Edison. we filed complaints with NYC and had someone come inspect and read the meters. They confirmed the meters work properly but it’s a building structure issue so the landlord is in charge of fixing this. This was brought to the landlords attention and they did not seem to care at all and told us to apply for financial assistance with the state…. My roommates and I stayed for 2 years purely because we loved the location and apartment, but we EACH had to pay about $1100 total to Con Edison. Several neighbors broke their leases and moved out because they could not afford the utility bills. I suggest requesting utility record history for the unit BEFORE signing anything so you know what you’re getting into.

Advice to the owners

Fix the electrical structure so tenants aren’t paying thousands to Con Edison
