KNG Management is a slumlord

Pros

At least they had A/C, and allowed any pets, and allowed backyard access from the ground floor apartments. I was also able to edit the lease before signing it.

Cons

Upstairs A/C broke after only a year and a half and only spewed hot air. When I lived there a water pipe broke over one of the bedrooms (the roommate had been complaining about the leak months beforehand), causing the fire department to have to stop this deluge of the place in the middle of the night. Two of the roommates moved out immediately, and I got some rent credit because of damage to my stuff downstairs... but then they expected me to help them rent out the remaining rooms, when the ceiling still had a gaping hole in it! Also, the downstairs room had an egress to the back yard, but you had to trudge through a filthy, disgusting, half-lit building cellar to get there (where you also saw the back side of the unfinished bedroom walls). The next door basement neighbor insisted on playing his original techno music through speakers late at night, despite my complaints. He also stole my backyard hose and hole-digger and basically made it impossible to do anything but tailgate parties in the backyard. But the worst thing about the basement room is that every couple minutes, a pedestrian will stomp on the diamond plate steel cellar door above, making a harsh "clang" that you will never quite be able to sleep through. When I finally did move out, I didn't quite get everything in one trip. When I came back the next day for the last few things, I was stunned to find they had already changed my lock! I literally had to file a motion in housing court to get my deposit back.

Advice to the owners

Have a bit of empathy for people! Provide basic sound (and air) insulation in all the bedrooms and load-bearing walls. Would you want to have to walk through a creepy narrow cellar full of dust and loose light fixtures in order to get to your backyard? Is it really that hard to pad some cellar doors? or G-d forbid, put an actual legitimate bedroom door for the lower level? Or even teach us how to maintain the PTAC if you're not gonna do it? I never wanted to live there for only one year, but your own bad management made that inevitable.
