Good value and great location in Harlem

Pros

Nice neighborhood, close to subway and shops. The room was clean, furnished, and move-in ready. Utilities and WiFi included made things easy.

Cons

Furniture is basic, and the kitchen can get busy at times.

Advice to the owners

Improve common area maintenance and consider upgrading some of the furniture.

Outpost Club review

Pros

-Nicely renovated building -Central AC -Free replacements for broken equipment (toasters, shower head, etc), cleaning included in rent, TP and soap and paper towels included in rent -Furnished

Cons

-Outpost Club as a whole is a scammy company that seems really good on the outside or if you stay for only a few months like most people do but once you stay for long enough, you see the cracks. They overcharge people for rent and utilities--this is a 3 bed apartment with laundry costing $7 to wash and dry, and is a walk up. That's far too much for this area. You pay $150 for utilities no matter how much heating/AC you use although if you go past a certain limit you get charged extra and they handle the wifi so if there are wifi issues, you're at the whim of the customer service people who are unhelpful. I had consistent wifi issues for 9 months with the wifi going out for a full week once and often for a full day at a time. I talked to them time and time again and they didn't compensate me or really do anything to try and fix it long term -You have no say in who your roommates are, and little if any advance notice if people are moving in. I've been here for a few years and while 1 of my roommates has been here for the same amount of time, we've cycled through 9 third roommates and often they would just show up one day out of nowhere. -There are cleaning services but often they only do a surface level clean--I once had some (not that many) dishes in the sink when they came and instead of washing the dishes or just running the dishwasher for them, they crammed them into the dishwasher in a way that jammed it and didn't even start the dishwasher. My utility bill is going into this kind of cleaning and you have no say in whether you want that or not. -They also make you enroll and pay for tenant insurance even though most of the furniture belongs to outpost and the tenant wouldn't have much to lose of their property if something happened. Also, security deposits are not paid back to you--you have to sign up for paying it in installments where you don't pay it all upfront but also don't get it back
