Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant reviews for buildings managed by Benjamin Bernstein depict a mixed management experience. Positives include generally clean buildings with attentive supers and owners who are responsive in some locations. Residents appreciate quiet streets, friendly neighbors, and good heating when functioning properly. Challenges recurring across properties involve pest infestations, especially roaches and rodents, delayed or insufficient maintenance updates, and occasional security concerns. Some buildings suffer from structural issues and aging infrastructure that need urgent attention. Tenants advise more professional pest control and timely repairs for better upkeep. Overall, management shows care in some areas but inconsistency and neglect in others impact tenant satisfaction.

Great building and great location in Park Slope

Pros

Apartment is on a quiet street but still close to all the bars/restaurants on 5th and 7th. Lovely building with live in super that is always on top of things. Great place to live.

Cons

The only cons are that the walls are thin, so you constantly hear your neighbors. Also lived in the back of the building, so I always hear the trash maintenance (breaking bottles, sorting through trash, etc)

Special building deserves better landlord

Pros

Large apartment, especially for the price. Surprisingly quiet for the location. Responsive and kind super. Lovely neighbors

Cons

Kitchens and bathrooms could use updating. Structural issues (e.g., broken doorknob on front of building) are lazily fixed. Apartment is full of “the landlord special.” Owner seems invested in de-stabilizing apartments and has been not renewing leases only to let apartments sit empty for months (??)

Advice to the owners

Take care of the building and your tenants. Building is wasted under lazy and shady ownership
