Outstanding place to Live

Pros:
Convenient location to pretty much all of Astoria, reliable heat, electricity, utilities. Good size apartments as well!
Cons:
Some issues with package thieves, but that has gotten better in recent years.

Pros:
super is responsive and keeps building clean, walls are thicker so neighbors are not so noisy, elevator works more often than not. Close to subway and in a good part of Astoria

Nice and safe place to live

Pros:
Easy to get in touch with the super for any issues, lovely location central to a lot of places. Laundry usually worked fine, though I usually opted to just do wash and fold at a close-by laundromat.
Cons:
I lived on the top floor so heat was VERY accessible, almost too much at times. But I don't think that's avoidable in an old NYC building. Saw a dead cockroach here and there, but also I feel unavoidable in these types of buildings.

I love the area. The building has an elevator and great natural light exposure.
Cons:
Only 2 washers and 2 dryers for a building with 56 units...
Advice to owner:
More laundry machines would be helpful

Good neighbors, well maintained building, nice and responsive super
Cons:
Cockroaches (they do have monthly exterminator visits), heat is extremely LOUD

No-Longer pet friendly

Nice location. Garbage management was always good. Really nice light in the apartment. Lived there with partner 2015-2017, partner lived there since 2007. (This app didn’t let me choose accurate dates)
Cons:
During my time there the building went from pets allowed to no pets allowed, with renters with existing pets allowed to keep their pets. I was in a rent controlled apartment and had a dog and one puppy that was adopted just before the notice of the new policy.
Super noticed our new dog and approached my partner, asked for $500 to keep quiet or he would notify the landlord. We didn’t want to pay it, or want to be blackmailed every time super needed cash, so we left.
Loved the area, had nice neighbors who knew my partner’s family well. Greedy super couldn’t fix our bathroom or anything we needed done but he had the time to blackmail us over a dog. No longer have the apartment that was rent controlled for 5+ years and it’s probably rented for much more now.
Advice to owner:
People love their pets. Revert back to the old system and do something about your super.

Pros:
The landlord is not present a lot, but is somewhat responsive on email and accommodating. The super is very nice, easily accessible, and fixes things promptly (never any feeling like I'm inconveniencing, like I've had with past supers). Despite being an old building, it's charming and the apts are spacious, sound isn't a real issue for me. Neighbors are nice. They send regular exterminators monthly as preventative measures.
Cons:
Elevator can sometimes be slow, but they've made renovations to it at least.
Advice to owner:
Please consider taking ACH or other forms of rent payment. I might be the only one of my friends who still pays by mailing a check.
