Extremely poorly maintained, landlords do not care about you at all. They are largely unresponsive, or totally hostile and defensive. The lock to my front door kept breaking and was unable to lock from the outside and they treated it like it was a non-issue. I had mice and roaches at separate times and paid out of pocket for an exterminator. When I moved in, the apartment was unbelievably filthy-- there was still a tooth brush in the bathroom. There were so many major repairs that needed to be made, I ended up not moving in for the first month I paid rent. The door to the vestibule was chronically broken by police coming into the building (I am still unsure why this happened so frequently) and people would sneak in and smoke and do drugs in there at all hours of the night. People are constantly loitering and playing very loud music outside; in the summer, it was every single day.
