Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants of Steven Hoffman-managed buildings consistently praise the friendly, professional, and responsive building staff, especially doormen and maintenance teams. Buildings are well-maintained, clean, and generally quiet with good security. Many appreciate spacious apartments, included utilities, and pet-friendly policies. However, some older buildings show signs of wear, including intermittent heating and water pressure issues. A recurring concern involves management responsiveness—while many report timely service, a few note delays, especially regarding security deposits or older building maintenance. Overall, renters find the community atmosphere positive but suggest better communication and addressing aging infrastructure to enhance tenant satisfaction.

Great staff, hard to get deposit back

Pros

The staff you interact with daily, i.e. doormen, maintenance, and package room personnel, are wonderful. They’re genuinely friendly, consistently helpful, and often go above and beyond. The building itself is beautiful and generally well maintained, and the gym membership is very affordable. I also met some great neighbors while living there.

Cons

Management has been disappointing. After I moved out, they became largely unresponsive to my inquiries about my security deposit. It has now been 4 weeks, and despite 4 emails and 1 voicemail, I’ve only been told they would look into it, with no clear update or timeline.

Advice to the owners

Return the deposit. Stop ignoring former tenants emails.

Prewar and full of charm

Pros

The staff are so friendly, never had a major pest incident (reads: mouse or rat), and you get tons of space. Also can’t beat utilities being included!

Cons

Some parts of the building and apartments are just old and constantly broken down. There are also quite a few unhoused people always loitering around.
