Terrible management company

Pros

Incredible location, beautiful street, high ceilings and tall windows. Neighbors are very nice

Cons

When we moved in we discovered that half the outlets in the apartment didn’t work, and management refused to fix them so we had to run potentially dangerous extension cords all around the apartment. We had incredibly loud construction above us for several months every morning starting at 7am, which also caused multiple leaks in our apartment. Management refused to even give us an estimate of when the construction might be over, and just told us if we don’t like it we should move out. The heat one winter was blasting to about 90 degrees, and they told us they wouldn’t turn it down, that we should just leave our windows open all day, even when we’re not home. (“Don’t worry, no one’s going to break in!”) The location close to the park is lovely, but also means that the neighborhood is an absolute zoo every weekend and it’s hard to get to your building on marathon day/Halloween/other random events. Lots of construction on the street means constant honking and noise every morning. Building was beautiful but pretty run-down and not well-maintained. At one point, one apartment in the building was an illegal Airbnb and random groups of people would show up every weekend to party. Management made everyone come to the office to get a new front door key in an attempt to get rid of the airbnb tenants, but somehow failed to realize that since they hadn’t legally evicted that tenant yet, they’d have to provide them a new key, as well… Threatened to withhold our security deposit if we didn’t let them show our apartment to prospective tenants at any time they wanted, even when we were out of town. Landlord would raise the rent drastically each year- our rent went up $1300 in two years.

Advice to the owners

Treat your building and tenants with respect

Good building, ownership could be better

Pros

Building is in a perfect location, neighbors are friendly and nice

Cons

Property management is a bit disorganized, thought our lease ended on a different day than it actually did, then raised out rent and charged us a pro-rated raise since they missed our original lease ending date.

Advice to the owners

Be more organized
