Unethical and Dishonest Landloard
Pros
The apartments are a good size; the neighborhood has a good vibe and community feel. The apartments have a good layout if you want to feel of having some space. Some updates are up to code (although it likely took them 2-3 times to get it right). But overall, most of the updates are done with the cheapest materials and usually by someone the owner slipped cash to on the side
Cons
The owner is one of the most duplicitous, money-hungry, dishonest, and ugly people I have ever encountered. They will shout you down, lie, and conspire against you if they feel questioned. They gossip and create drama between tenants. They will lie, saying they didn't receive payment, but give no way to have it securely delivered and then later cash all checks, equaling double payment. Because it is owner-occupied, this person is inescapable and will often remind you that it is their house, not your apartment. The owner became angry at me because I continued to ask for the return of the overpayment of money, and in response, she tore out my washer and dryer and let me sit in a construction zone for 6 months while paying full rent. I'm the longest they have ever had a tenant at 2.5 years everyone else has left after a year
Advice to the owners
You should not be a landloard. You have intentionally made life hell for your tenants and I hope everyoe else is spared the pain of suffering of living in a building you own.
