Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for buildings managed by Joel Reich reflects mixed experiences. While some appreciate the good location, reasonable rent, and certain amenities like roof access and laundry facilities, many highlight significant issues. Concerns include thin walls leading to noise disturbances, pest problems especially with rats, occasional cleanliness lapses, and unreliable garbage management. A common frustration involves unresponsive or slow management, particularly regarding maintenance requests and handling tenant concerns, with some feeling the owner lacks empathy during tough times like the pandemic. Prospective renters should expect a generally affordable but noisy environment with variable management responsiveness.

Reviews

Former tenant·10 months ago

loud and stinky- literally NO service in the building

Pros

there is roof access.

Cons

they advertise a shared backyard - it’s not a backyard; it’s just where they keep garbage. there is pretty much no cell service in the whole building somehow unless you’re right up against the window. this makes doing laundry nearly impossible, as you start the machines with an app the walls are extremely thin, so you can hear everything going on in the other apartment there is also a HEAVY smoker on the first floor, so the first floor always smells like cigarettes, which sometimes follows you up the stairwell.

Former tenant·Over 1 year ago

Unresponsive management unwilling to fix issues

Pros

Large unit with washer and dryer in the building. Large bedroom with plenty of light.

Cons

The fridge is very slim and difficult to fit your food in. Lots of rats outside leaving us unable to use the patio. Rats are also in the wall that scratch and make noise during the day. Smells of rat pee in the office and outside.

Advice to the owners

Be proactive and make changes before you increase the rent.
