Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant reviews for KI SHIN's buildings indicate inconsistent management quality. While some appreciate the landlord's responsiveness to urgent maintenance and good garbage management, others report serious issues such as pest infestations, delayed repairs, and poor communication. Heating and water pressure vary widely, with some apartments experiencing prolonged outages and subpar conditions. The buildings generally benefit from desirable locations and long-term neighbors, but maintenance neglect and unaddressed apartment disrepair are common. Renters advise improving communication channels, faster follow-ups for non-urgent matters, and better upkeep to enhance tenant safety and satisfaction. Overall, expect mixed experiences with responsiveness and building maintenance.

Typical poorly managed prewar

Pros

Owner didn't bother you if you didn't bother them. I put up a fake wall, I got a new pet, and the owner didn't want to hear about it (in a good way). The size of the apartment was good and it's well priced. Many of the neighbors have been there a long time and are very sweet.

Cons

Gas broke for nine months, and took the owner eight of those months to give us a hot plate (which they then took back immediately once the gas was fixed). Constantly had to deal with the fire department because of that. The landlord said building manager are scummy, always nickel and diming you. I had a few rodents and cockroaches via the pipes, which I took care of on my own. Apartment is in disrepair.

Good starter apartment

Pros

Location is great, right off of Amsterdam Ave and in a vibrant part of the UWS. Also, the landlord is very responsive about maintenance requests, and repairs are usually completed within a few days. The price was also reasonable for the neighborhood, given the current market.

Cons

No elevator, the stairway is kind of rundown, and the ceiling leaks in the staircase when it rains.
