Two Thumbs Up
Former Tenant
Pros:
Spacious unit, clean building, lots of windows, good location, responsive management
Cons:
Ongoing issues with laundry machines, luckily there is a laundromat very close. AC and heat are great but very expensive. Wish the rent hadn’t gone up so fast.

Old building, poor management and maintenance
Former Tenant
Pros:
The super is nice and the building is kept generally clean despite being old
Cons:
The front door to this building was broken for months and management did little to fix it. Homeless people sleeping inside and packages stolen

Don't rent here No Heat, No insulation, Can hear Everything
Former Tenant
Pros:
Just the location, that's about it.
Cons:
So here goes. There is NO heat in the entire building, no it's not that the landlord doesn't turn it on, it's that the building literally doesn't have a heating system, So YOU the tenant are responsible for heating your own apt with a heater that YOU pay for to power. there is also no air conditioning and it gets freaking hot! So you also have to pay to run your own ac. The building is dirty and full of rodents and roaches, there's a restaurant on the bottom floor, and that doesn't help the situation with the pests, there is NO insulation in any of the apts so you can hear everything, I can hear my neighbors phone ring in my apt and when they are intimate. also, they just finished renovating two apts, 3E and 2W, 3E was a rent-controlled unit where the previous renter only paid $50 a month and 2W was a rent-regulated apt where the rent was below 1k both renters were kicked out unlawfully and where great people. They also did a scumbag move and demoltioned of the two apts with NO Permits not giving a fuck about the rest of the tenants in the building and any health concerns that may have impacted them with air quality or quality of life, since they started construction at 7am which is also illegal. im pretty sure they will try and hike up the rent to market, I hope no one moves in, the management company run by Scumbag Jerry Edelmen and his family suck. they renovated these empty apts with no problem yet tenants who live here already have collapsing floors, slanted bathroom floors, leaks, bad windows etc and they never do anything. The super is a nice guy who does his best to clean and do the garbage, the neighbors are cool and make no fuss. everyone does their part to keep things nice and clean and the lady on the first floor takes good care of a little yard by cleaning it and planting flowers. so to anyone thinking of renting here DONT. Not only do they treat tenants like shit once they move in, but they treat the tenants who have been here for decades like shit also. No one has ever stayed more than 2 years in any of the new apts that they renovated (4E) because it sucks, so BE WARNED
Advice to owner:
Be nice to those who have been here for decades, its not our fault we are rent stable. we deserve new apts and all the things the new apts have

Building has a roach issue, and paper thin walls
Former Tenant
Pros:
Elevator building, decently updated appliances
Cons:
Thin walls, loud booming from next door units are a problem. You feel like you have roommates, even when you live in your own unit. Roach/pest problems
Advice to owner:
Do better to fix these issues, otherwise don’t raise rents so unreasonably, especially when tenants have lived there for longer time.

affordable building with outdoor space
Former Tenant
Pros:
Good property Manager, very friendly
Cons:
One specific neighbor causes problems

It is what it is.
Former Tenant
Pros:
The location of the building was pretty much the only pro, it was close to church, hardware store, grocery stores, supermarket, public transportation, schools.
Cons:
Management does nothing to actually fix any problems that arise unless you get the city involved. The walls were so thin I could hear the neighbors in bed & when they’d watch a movie, their music, couldn’t find a good spot to hang on the walls because it would go right through the “wall”. The RODENTS! My goodness, the rodents, the mouses would at times be roaming the hallways, cockroaches all the time no matter the cleanliness, the exterminator was useless. Management was also extremely rude for no reason aside from their power trip I’m guessing. Horrible.
Advice to owner:
Take care of your building, invest in better materials and products when you do replace something and take an anger management class and etiquette class to learn how to speak to tenants who would pay you.

Management has gotten better
Former Tenant
Pros:
New management (J&M) did a much better job with pest control than the prior (we had a mouse problem and they were very unresponsive). Decent water pressure, nicely sized bedrooms, good natural light and location, portal payment was simple for rent.
Cons:
The mice problems, very old kitchen with no updates, first management company would not fix a no-longer functional cabinet, walk-up building with very narrow stairs made moving difficult. Very very hot in the winters due to radiator heat and in the summer.
Advice to owner:
Continue spraying the ground floor, I think that made a big difference as far as the mice.

Living on 17th Street
Former Tenant
Pros:
- mostly quiet, tree-lined street
- mostly functional laundry room with virtual payment (occasional breakdowns)
- spacious, pretty units with pre-war details
- responsiveness to complaints of disrepair
Cons:
- packages get stolen from the vestibule easily
- occasional mice and roaches (management-provided extermination services worked for roaches, but not for mice - had to bring in my own company for $300)
- management has Big Corporation Energy - no flexibility with late payments or lease extensions, etc.
- EXPENSIVE: 3k+ for a studio with no dishwasher, washer/dryer, elevator, doorman, etc.

landlords will raise the rent as much as possible
Former Tenant
Pros:
great location, shared backyard that you can make your own, good trash management, pest services every month, good water pressure
Cons:
corporate landlord--they don't care about you and will raise the rent as much as possible every year. roof leaks when it rains, sometimes superintendent doesn't show up, seen a rat in the building

Irresponsible management and aggressive super
Former Tenant
Pros:
Spacious and clean
Cons:
Management does not take responsibility for repairs. Super is threatening and does the bare minimum if asked for multiple times, verbally abusive. Dryer broke and has not been fixed for over a year. Terrible central air and heat system.
Advice to owner:
Change super company

RENT TOO HIGH FOR THE SPACE
Former Tenant
Pros:
Good neighbors, few tenants, no small children, clean, delivery is trust worthy
Cons:
Heat can be very hot or none and you have to send several emails to get heat, rent is very high and it shouldn't be, no supers living in or near area so if something breaks down you have to wait til next day especially if it'd after 5pm. Rail road Apts and not wide at all.
