If they can ignore you, its not their problem
Pros
The Super is amazing, the neighborhood is fantastic and very safe
Cons
The building is fully infested with German Roaches. Top to bottom. Loose pipe fittings (holes messily hammered in the wall for the pipes) give them easy access to your space. There's no accountability from the owners. There was an uptick in roach activity do they sent out an email about tenants' responsibility to keep their space clean, and took down the pest control sign up sheet. The balconies are shared, and connected to a fire escape, so every apartment's balcony is connected to 11 others. But the doors don't lock properly. Pull once, and it's open. Thank god the neighbors are good. Speaking of the good neighbors ... you'll know they're there. The walls are thick, but the floors aren't. You should always expect some noise from upstairs neighbors in any apartment, but this is different. The floor shakes when your next door neighbor is walking around. There are 3 washers and dryers for a 36 unit building, and when one is broken they won't fix it until a second one breaks down too. Avoid this place at any and all costs. Its not worth it
Advice to the owners
Tear it down and try again? Put the tenants up in a hotel for a few days while you fumigate it? Go through each apartment with a contractor to properly fit the pipes and doors? Eat shit and die? Kill yourself?
Ltd heat; often no hot water; no composting
Pros
Location is great -- close to the subway and the Flushing Meadow park.
Cons
No heat yet as of Oct. 22, 2022, despite NYC law (see https://www1.nyc.gov/site/hpd/services-and-information/heat-and-hot-water-information.page). No hot water during the following times: 9/27 (evening), 9/28 (morning and evening), 9/29 (morning), 10/16 (morning). For whole building, only 3 washers and 3 dryers, with limited hours (7 am to 10 pm), and at least one is frequently broken. They clearly have a composting bin (I've seen it several times), but they hide it, so tenants cannot deposit compostable waste, and we are prevented from reducing our carbon/methane emissions.
Advice to the owners
Keep tenants warm. Let us compost with the composting bin.
