Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews of buildings managed by Sol Knopf reveal a mix of experiences among tenants. While many commend the size and affordability of the apartments, significant concerns are raised regarding cleanliness, pest control, and maintenance responsiveness. Common issues include ongoing pest infestations, poorly managed garbage areas, inconsistent heating, and unreliable elevator service. The owner’s responsiveness to tenant needs appears to be lacking, with some reviews pointing to maintenance delays. Despite a few positive interactions and community vibes, many tenants ultimately recommend looking elsewhere due to the persistent management issues.

Roach infested, nasty basement and trash area - mgmt doesn’t do anything

Pros

Size of apartment

Cons

Building is infested with roaches and doesn’t matter how clean you keep your apartment they will always come back. Exterminator visits are clearly not effective and mgmt doesn’t change company or increase visits. Also the basement area is always nasty and smelly, trash area is not well maintained and the infestation never gets better. Common areas are falling apart, it looks very abandoned, elevator constantly breaks.

Advice to the owners

Improve pest control

Usually decent but no heat in the winter and elevator breaks down occasionally

Pros

Building common area and outside is clean and well maintained. Location is great and convenient, close to all. Supermarket downstairs.

Cons

Little to no heat in the winter: when it's 50 degrees outside, the heat is blasting but when it's 10 degrees outside, there's hardly any heat. Elevator problems: the elevator breaks down occasionally so the FDNY has to be called to get the poor folks stuck inside out. Rat problem in the basement. Neighbors: occasionally they are careless and leave the water running so it leaks down into the apartments below, ruining the ceiling and walls.

Advice to the owners

Turn on the heat in the winter or install a thermostat so it automatically turns on; upgrade/fix the elevator.
