Worst Building Ever
Pros
The only thing I liked about this apartment was the space that we had and its proximity to two subway stations.
Cons
This building had so many problems I probably can’t even list them all. The hot water was constantly shutting off for 1+ days at a time, the air conditioning/heating units worked for probably 1/3rd of the time we lived there, there were giant holes in the walls from where they attempted to “repair” the ac units and just never closed them back up. The kitchen sink leaked all over the floor and into the apartment below us. The dishwasher also leaked all over the floor. There was a leak in the ceiling for months that never got fixed. We had to move our furniture and cover the floor in towels whenever it rained. I understand that every apartment has problems, but my biggest issue with this building at the end of the day was the management. The landlord had zero desire to fix any of the blaring problems. He literally ghosted us countless times. The only time he would help is when he was literally breaking the law and we put reports in to the city for them to force him to do something, which happened an absurd amount of times. At the end of my living here, I had to contact a lawyer in order to get a list of what my security deposit was used for, which is required by law. The landlord refused to give me any of the deposit and wouldn’t tell me why and then ghosted me, again. He finally gave me a list (after I contacted a tenant’s rights lawyer) with, respectfully, bs reasons why the deposit was used. If he really spent that money on what he said he did, he would’ve had to hire the most expensive repairmen in NYC to fix issues that definitely were not existent when I moved out. At this point I honestly too exhausted to fight him on it, not to mention I had already lived in a new apartment for months, and so I never got my security deposit. I hope he enjoyed my money! This is the only apartment I’ve ever lived in where I’ve had to report the building/landlord to the city for violating tenants rights. I do not recommend living here.
Advice to the owners
My only advice the property owner is to get it together. Hire a new landlord who doesn’t constantly break the law. Your building is the worst I’ve ever lived in, which I’m sure is not your goal. Please just do the bare minimum for your tenants.
