Unresponsive Management/Decently Maintained Common Areas

Pros

Large, spacious apartment layouts, garage is available below the building. Also there are currently two internet service providers so you have a bit of leverage to get a good deal on internet service. Neighbors are mostly quiet. I was given fresh appliances when I moved in. Winter heat is mostly reliable via steam radiators, but your apartment won't be toasty, they are stingy with the heat. This building was recently sold to a new owner/management company, and they brought on a new super who is pretty good and keeps the building and trash areas great. There used to be a live in super, but him and his porter did a pretty bad job at trash and cleaning the floors/elevator, the basement always smelled like literal death and there were mice and roaches. The new super doesn't live on site, and manages a few other buildings, but the team of people that take care of trash do a fantastic job, they take care of it daily and smells are kept under control. They also sweep and mop the floors, elevator, windex the doors regularly, so it's a really big improvement. I haven't seen any mice since and much less insects.

Cons

Management is very disorganized and unresponsive. They send lease renewals late, rent bills always have issues. When you call they are overall courteous but they don't really resolve your account issues, nor are they proactive. Rent payment has to be via check, they are stuck in the 80's. No efficient communication to tenants, not via email or anything digital. They may post a raggedy piece of paper in the lobby announcing something important from time to time, but this is not consistent. I moved out recently and there was absolutely no follow up from them on any actions needed from me, so expect to do that legwork yourself.

Advice to the owners

You should be more organized, there is literally no excuse to be so backwards in 2026, there are many avenues/software/etc. to be normal as far as website rent payment, email communication, etc. The people answering your phones also don't seem to have a good way to fix issues with rent bills on their own.
