This place has mice

Pros

none i can think of. it's a super old building.

Cons

This place has mice. I saw mice crawling inside the stove one night walking by the kitchen. Seems like they live in there.

Advice to the owners

need new kitchen.

A quiet hell

Pros

Classic, prewarish building/house.

Cons

The landlord was a crazy fifth roommate who had OCD or some kind of mental disorder. I am not exaggerating. They were always inside the apartment. It is a house with two apartments, one upstairs and one downstairs. They lived upstairs and they were downstairs every single day. They basically lived with us (the tenants). Very controlling and micromanaged EVERYTHING. Was always sending annoying and nasty text messages chastising us about every little thing. (“You left crumbs on the counter”, “you left water on the floor in the bathroom after your shower”, etc. ) The antagonizing text messages got to the point where I muted them as a contact in my phone because I got tired of them continually ruining my day. It became such a toxic environment that all of us (tenants) began to feel anxious about everything. Cooking in the kitchen. Using the shower. Living in fear of this domineering and incredibly invasive landlord. It was dictatorship in my own home. I can honestly say it was the worst living situation of my entire life. I’ve lived 30+ different places across the globe. I moved out and I have not received my security deposit and likely won’t be receiving it. AND I DONT CARE! Escaping this toxic controlling person is worth it for me. I feel so incredibly happy now you have no idea. I’m grateful every single day that I never have to see or be in the vicinity of this person ever again. My heart is filled with warmth now that I actually live somewhere that is like a HOME and not a PRISON. That’s how bad it was. Heat. HUGE ISSUE. When I first moved in it was during the winter season the house was very warm and toasty. I loved it. Fast forward to the following Fall/Winter. The complete opposite. From October on it was ice cold in that house. Like I would step out of bed and the floor felt like my windows had been open the entire night. It was even worse in the bathroom where the floor felt like ICE. This went on for months. Occasionally I would text the landlord “hey can you turn on the heat? It’s cold” and they would act dumbfounded and begrudgingly turn on the heat. For a day. Then it would go back to igloo temperatures and the same problem kept occurring. It got to the point where me and all the other tenants purchased heaters for our bedrooms, unbeknownst to each other. We all had different schedules and didn’t communicate as well as we should have. But ALL OF US WERE FREEZING AND TIRED OF HAVING TO REMIND OUR LANDLORD TO TREAT US LIKE HUMANS. The fact that the landlord was living in the same house as us just made it worse. They knew how cold it was, they just didn’t feel the need to turn on the heat. Perhaps they had their own heater upstairs? I will never know. But one tidbit I do know was that one of the bedrooms in our apartment was being used as an Airbnb and whenever there was a new guest coming to stay the house would always be warm and toasty on that day. That’s how I know they knew how cold we were, they just didn’t care. The tenants actually living in the house and paying rent were not worthy of being treated like humans, only the Airbnb guests apparently… crazy I know. The landlord’s temperament was HORRIBLE and incredibly unprofessional. I vividly recall being inside my room and hearing the landlord loudly yell at one of the other tenants in another language. It was a heated argument and the landlord was really yelling at the top of their lungs and then they stomped away upstairs. I was floored that they would behave that way. Months later the tenants got together and communicated some of our grievances and figured out we all felt the same way about a couple of issues like the heat being nonexistent and the landlord lacking boundaries and having crazy control issues. Did I mention that the landlord put up signs EVERYWHERE in the apartment telling us directions on what to do and what not to do? (“Don’t put coffee in the sink”, “keep the counters clean”, etc) We met with the landlord and voiced our problems. The landlord defended themselves and denied what we were saying and towards the end started raising their voice, yelling. Minimal changes were made afterwards. Needless to say every single tenant moved out once the lease ended. Bugs. The very first day I toured the room when it was supposedly "clean" there was a moth in the room flying around. That was the first clue. It's an old house, bugs are inevitable. I’ve seen them in the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen. Especially since in the summer they keep the kitchen windows open . Flies are inevitable and are a problem each summer, especially since the landlord is always feeding cats in the backyard and the windows are open. Flies love those cat food bowls. Anyway, this is a horrible place to live. The landlord usually puts ads for the apartment on Facebook, that’s how I found it. They also have an Airbnb listing. Stay here at your own risk.

Advice to the owners

Seek therapy and stay away from other humans.
