Decent pre-war building, but some issues with pests
Pros
Lived in this building for two years in a 1br. The co-op overall maintained the building well. The lobby staff were all very friendly and trustworthy. The super, Wilson, was quite responsive, responsible, and friendly. Location is obviously great and our unit was very quiet (faced the back alleyway).
Cons
However, the building had issues with roaches - constantly had roaches in our apartment and the trash areas constantly had them as well. The laundry room also had a lot of roaches.
Great building in midtown
Pros
- Wonderful location. Very close to 5th ave, Grand Central, and Bryant Park, but on a very quiet section of Park. Great restaurants nearby. - Building staff are extremely friendly and attentive. The new super is great and has really taken the building to a new level. - Building is quite clean and well-maintained. We had some problems with roaches when we first moved in, but the building has an exterminator come frequently. The super also took several hours to fill holes in our apartment, which helped greatly reduce the roaches. - Laundry in-building is convenient and works well. - Management company is responsive and keeps the building in good condition. - Doormen are excellent A+ and very friendly.
Cons
- Heat is a bit noisy in the winter and sometimes hard to control (typical of older NYC buildings). - Building isn't handicap accessible due to front stairs.
Advice to the owners
Keep on maintaining 71 Park well and it will continue to be a great place to live.
