Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant reviews for buildings managed by Richard Podpirka reveal a mixed experience. Many renters praise the cleanliness of the properties, the friendly demeanor and responsiveness of the superintendents, and the overall management quality. However, some residents express frustration with heat issues, inconsistent pest control, and rising rental costs. Communication with management is sometimes lacking, particularly in addressing maintenance concerns. Most importantly, while many tenants appreciate the community atmosphere and convenient locations, they also advise management to enhance pest management and respond more promptly to tenant issues. Overall, these buildings can be a good choice but may require attention to certain areas for improvement.

Reviews

Former tenant·just now

Beautiful units, well managed building.

Pros

Spacious units. This was probably the biggest 1 bdrm I ever had while living in queens. Generous closet space. Super was very responsive. Pest control comes every month to spray (I was nudged by the super to let them in preventatively 👀 ). Great location that is close to train but not too noisy.

Cons

Rent on renovated units increased nearly 10% every year. Laundry machine costs also increase a lot. The walls and ceilings/floors are kind of thin; it's an apartment so I expect to hear my neighbors. It's a mixed bag. Everyone is really nice but upstairs I had a neighbor that seemed to be dropping a metal pipe every night, and I could hear my next door neighbors conversations/music (they need a door sweep). With some of the more extreme weather we were having, I was also noticing more pests. Became not worth the increasing price to stay.

The only benefit is the price and proximity to the train

Pros

MOST of the neighbors here are cool and it’s a dog friendly building.

Cons

Where to begin… This is an old building with old building issues. - Roaches. There’s an exterminator that comes to the building once a month. It doesn’t work. - Water pressure. It takes a while for water to get hot and sometimes sounds like the pipes are going to burst. - Climate. It is VERY hot in the summer and FREEZING in the winter. The heat comes on a specific date regardless of if it’s freezing or not before the date. - Elevators. The elevator regularly goes out of service. - Management. Management is unresponsive. No communication. I’ve left messages for the landlord and have never received a callback. Take better care of the building and your tenants. If there’s an issue like the nuisance “neighbor” that is causing high turnover in the building, you should address it.

Advice to the owners

Take better care of the building and your tenants. If there’s an issue like the nuisance “neighbor” that is causing high turnover in the building, you should address it.
