Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews for buildings managed by Alan Messner reveal consistent challenges with management responsiveness and maintenance. Tenants frequently note delays or failures in addressing heating issues, pest control, and repair requests, with some describing management as unresponsive or even disrespectful. While buildings often feature desirable locations and aesthetically pleasing interiors, poor insulation results in high heating costs. Garbage management and cleanliness receive mixed feedback, with some sites well-maintained and others suffering neglect. Noise levels vary but tend to be moderate to high, and neighbor relations range from friendly to problematic. Overall, renters should expect slow or inadequate management intervention despite attractive building features.

Aesthetic over Quality

Pros

Ofcourse the location is great, the exposed brick and wood look is good but at what cost. There is a laundromat across the street even though there is no laundry in building. We had a dishwasher.

Cons

The owners are not good at all. There are very misogynist. One time they came to see the issues in the apartment and walked in on me in the bathroom without knocking. Did not even apologize. They don't look you in the eye if you are a woman. All the issues in the apartment were only addressed after emailing them multiple times. The building has pest problems because it is above a restaurant. The owners also try to raise rent as high as possible so you have to really negotiate every lease. The building is also poorly insulated with single layer bricks. So expect high heat bills in winter. The windows were very drafty so had to get management to come deal with it. They don't maintain the personal the heat/Ac units. They gave the full deposit back after a month of leaving but without interest.

Advice to the owners

Don't be an entitled classist misogynist twat.
