Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants at buildings managed by 259 BOERUM ST LLC experience a mix of positives and challenges. The apartments often feature modern amenities, good water pressure, and pet-friendly policies. Some residents find the landlord responsive and appreciate the building maintenance. However, concerns remain about thin walls leading to noise issues, occasional flooding in basements, and inconsistent garbage management. Several tenants report poor communication, rent hikes, and unprofessional behavior from management, leading to frustration. Prospective renters should expect variability in responsiveness and may encounter neighbor noise and heating inconsistencies, highlighting a need for improved tenant relations and building upkeep.

Decent apartment - untrustworthy management

Pros

Very modern with good stainless steel appliances and washer/dryer in basement. A lot of greenery outside of the kitchen window which is nice considering the area itself is pretty industrial.

Cons

Walls are incredibly thin. You could hear a pin drop from the next unit. I'm not joking when I say I could hear the sheets rustling as my neighbor rolled over in bed. If you have an inconsiderate neighbor, you're screwed. They raised rent by $1600, forcing three units (including myself) to vacate. Then they waited until the last minute to find a new tenant and pressured me to move out before my last month was up. They would call up to six times a day asking, “Have you moved out yet?” - although I had paid for the full month and had every right to be there until the 31st. It got so out of hand, I had to block their number and tell them to keep all correspondence limited to email. When they finally arranged for potential tenants to view the unit, I told them I wouldn't be home. Still, they would proceed to show up with no key then get irritated that I wasn't there to open the door for them. (This happened three times.) When I still had a week left on my lease, I walked into my apartment to a Hassidic man standing in my kitchen, claiming that he thought I had moved out. On top of that, when I finally did move out, they "forgot" to return my security deposit, and I didn't receive it until well beyond the legal 14-day limit. My electricity bill was also astronomical even though I almost never ran my AC. ConEd told me that my electrical usage was suspiciously high considering the size of my apartment and said that they have reason to believe that the unit was deceptively wired to have the tenant pay for more than their unit alone. I’d be out of town for half the month, and even with all my devices unplugged and the AC off, my electric bill would still be $250+. I questioned maintenance about it, and they brushed it off. ConEd says they have initiated an investigation. Everything about this experience screams untrustworthy. I was a great tenant who always paid on time, and I was shocked by their lack of professionalism. Proceed with great caution.

Advice to the owners

Having such a high tenant turnover is a reflection of greed. Do better.
