Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant reviews of buildings managed by Herman Rubin present a mixed picture with recurring concerns. Management is frequently described as unresponsive and slow to address maintenance issues, especially serious ones like leaks, mold, and pest infestations. Garbage management is often inadequate, contributing to pest problems and noise complaints from neighbors. Positive notes include large apartment sizes, quiet, and friendly neighbors in some buildings, along with reasonable rents and occasional quick responses from supers. However, several reviewers highlight poor communication, a lack of trust, and neglect of tenants' basic needs. Prospective renters should anticipate variable conditions and may need to actively advocate for repairs and cleanliness.

Pretty bad building and terrible management

Pros

Cheap and sizeable apartment

Cons

The pipes are so unbelievably loud. It wakes my whole apartment up multiple times a night. Management is unbearable to work with. Truly terrible. They bug situation is also pretty bad and management doesnt care. You have to take care of it yourself. There is literally nothing that could happen that managment could care about- even when my ceiling was leaking and had mold growing I had to hound them to get it taken care of, which consited of them just paining over the water stains, and leaving the paint they chipped off all over the counter and floor. I could go on but you het the point.

Advice to the owners

Take care of the apartments. Be responsive when tenants tell you there's a problem. And call people back when you say you will so they don't have to chase you down for the smallest thing.
