Nice neighborhood. Watch out for landlord

Pros:
Neighborhood was very nice.
Cons:
Owner was very rude when building was flooding. Told us to just deal with it and wait till next day.

Owner tried to raise the rent half-way through the lease. We threatened to take legal action.

Refused to give us our deposit back despite that all rend had been paid in full. Said rent was not paid. When asked to provide paperwork supporting this, landlord kept ignoring calls and said he can’t find it once we finally arrived in person.
Advice to owner:
Follow laws and guidelines.

Pest issues (rats, mice, mold)

Pros:
Owner is responsive and can be pretty nice at time.
There was visible efforts to improve the pest situation.
Spacious apartment with good retail nearby.
Cons:
We had a major pest control issues that lasted throughout the 9 months I staid there.
Owner was inexperienced with handling the pests, and was slow to hiring professionals to fix the infestation.
Mold in bathrooms, bathroom vent needs maintanence

Take care of the building

The worst landlord I ever had

Pros:
Love the location, great outdoor space for a top floor unit.
Cons:
Everything else. This building had electric heat to cut costs - so there was no heat in the hallways, leading to a burst pipe and a flood. Sewage backed up in our building as well as another in the 3 building “complex”
Advice to owner:
Actually fix up the building, don’t slap on a coat of paint and call it a day.

Poorly constructed building

Pros:
Great location, nice roof area.
Cons:
Had a pipe burst in our apartment due to poor insulation. Floors were completely destroyed, management waited for us to move before properly fixing. Another tenant in the basement had sewage back up into their apartment. Don’t move here.
Advice to owner:
Fix the building!
