Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews of buildings managed by Mel Cherney reveal a mixed tenant experience. Many appreciate the buildings' prime locations, cleanliness, and well-maintained amenities, including good water pressure and pest control in some cases. However, a recurring concern is the management's poor responsiveness to maintenance requests and tenant communication, often requiring persistent follow-ups. Tenants report issues with outdated apartments, pest problems (especially cockroaches), faulty entry systems, and occasional heating or hot water problems. Despite these challenges, most renters still recommend living in these buildings, valuing the quiet surroundings, decent neighbors, and overall comfort, but urge improvements in management engagement and property upkeep.

Prime location and apartment, but at a cost

Pros

1. Apartment amenities and location are unbeatable for the price point 2. Nestled in a quiet street between 1st ave and 2nd ave 3. Rat free apartment and has been for years

Cons

1. Super is unresponsive or very slow - you'll need to constantly follow up or need to get a hold of the landlord if you want anything done 2. Door to buzz someone in always breaks 3. It takes forever to things to get fixed

Advice to the owners

Replace the current super with someone else who's more responsive and is willing to fix things

Fine Apartment Not Great Management

Pros

Pretty sizable and quiet apartment

Cons

Hot water issues again and again, the front door of the building constantly doesn't lock correctly, management is often unresponsive to issues. Some pests (you will see cockroaches in the summer).

Advice to the owners

Better pest control, respond to tenants, don't jack up prices so much year over year
