Perfect home for deep sleepers, darkness lovers
Pros
The landlord is so responsive and kind. He lives upstairs with his wife and two small children, and this is the only property he owns. It's a large, well-designed, basement unit with washer/dryer in unit and new, top-notch appliances. The kitchen is the highlight - large, with several cabinets including a lazy Susan, dish washer, and really nice stove. Pest control is also great, because the landlord calls Orkin several times a year to just inspect the whole house and put down traps etc... Haven't seen a single cockroach in an entire year now. It's also nice to have your own front door onto the street, and a really kind guy comes by daily to sweep the area, shovel snow and put down salt in the winter, etc. You're really well taken care of in this apartment.
Cons
Please don't move here unless you're a moderately heavy sleeper, or are okay with waking up at 7/8AM daily including weekends. The sounds and vibrations from footsteps and kids running upstairs travel in a way that I've never experienced before, and the place shakes a bit. It's usually pretty short-lived, like 2-3 hour bursts at a time (usually in the morning and evening), but it's quite loud and unless you're a heavy sleeper, you wouldn't be able to sleep through it. Not ideal for a light sleeper who works night shifts. Also, it's a basement, so there's obviously very little sunlight! The bedroom in the back has two small windows that are frosted over, and you could leave the blinds up and still not get much sunlight in the room. The kitchen has a small window that doesn't get much light, as well as another window in the front of the house. Not the best environment for plants haha, but might be ideal for someone who likes living in a dark, spacious place. Another thing - utilities can get a bit steep. You pay for all utilities out-of-pocket, and it can get up to $300-$350 during winter months. That's a lot, on top of $2k/month in rent.
