Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Reviews for buildings managed by Frank McCartin reveal a mixed management experience. Tenants acknowledge responsive and kind superintendents who maintain cleanliness and undertake some property upgrades. However, persistent issues include thin walls causing noise disturbances, inconsistent heating, occasional pest sightings, and fluctuating water pressure. Concerns about package theft and problematic neighbors are frequently mentioned, with calls for enhanced security measures and better tenant screening. Some residents feel management could be more proactive and attentive to serious tenant concerns, especially regarding safety and maintenance. Overall, tenants value the location and basic amenities but urge for more investment to address aging infrastructure and security challenges.

I've seen worse

Pros

there aren't a whole lot of pros I'd say. Most things were just okay and acceptable but nothing is outstanding. It has laundry in building which is nice. They do seem to be making some updates to the building like they re-did the basement cuz it was pretty dingy before but updated lighting and re-painted.

Cons

- super did his best but I don't think he was qualified and I don't think he really cared about actually fixing things, but they did replace him with a new super but no interactions with him so far - I find dead roaches in the basement and stairwell randomly so better than them being alive - The guy who lives in 1A has on and off had lots of sketchy guests come into our building and I think his guests steal our packages. He has had screaming fights in the building with these guests and they even smashed the glass on the building door. His guests are constantly being asked to be let in and ring everyone's doorbell at all hours. We've brought this up to management and they always say to file police reports and ask if we want to go to court which obviously is a big ask but they take no actions outside of that. - water pressure is good half the time and the water pressure in the shower decreases right at 10pm, not sure why this happens. Most of these things don't bother me as much as a man to be honest but the rent is way too high in my opinion and doesn't feel worth it although rent is very high in NY, this still doesn't feel worth it in my opinion

Advice to the owners

Please listen to your tenants when serious accusations are actually brought up. We understand your hands are tied with certain things but at least make some attempt.

Overall ok building

Pros

Decent size studio, has laundry & elevator

Cons

Walls are super thin, feels like neighbors are on the room with you. And upstairs neighbors just walking shakes my entire apt.

Advice to the owners

Fix walls to add sound/noise proofing material, because the walls/ceilings are too thin
