Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant reviews highlight buildings managed by Joseph Schwartz are a mixed bag. Tenants appreciate the amenities like gyms, central AC/heat, and clean spaces. However, concerns arise regarding unresponsive management, high rent raises, and maintenance issues like illegal deposit retention. Suggestions include improving neighbor conduct, enhancing management responsiveness, and implementing practical solutions like installing lights in parking areas and resolving snow removal issues. Overall, while the buildings offer modern features, improvements in customer service and operational transparency could enhance the renting experience for tenants seeking convenience and fair treatment.

YNS is not the best

Pros

The neighborhood is great, decent price for amenities

Cons

Rent raises are too much, management is terrible and they don’t update or fix the amenities

Good but will try to keep your deposit

Pros

It’s a good place to live. Management takes their time to respond to concerns, but they do get managed. The building is usually clean. It’s non-smoking, which is rare for NYC. Never saw a bug or rodent. You can control your heat/ac.

Cons

I think the rent is a bit high for a rooftop that isn’t super well-maintained. The parking area doorway has no lights, and there is no way to open the door other than getting out of your car to open it. Management WILL try to steal your deposit. They depend on you not knowing the law and make you fight for your deposit back. Your deposit can only be used for repairs to damages you caused: so get an itemized list of repairs or demand that deposit back. Their illegal behavior after move out date is the worst part of this building.

Advice to the owners

Install lights in the throughway between the street and parking area. Get door clickers for people paying for parking. That would make parking worth the price. Don’t try to illegally keep tenant deposits. Return deposits in the time allotted by law, and if you don’t have repairs, deposit needs to be returned.
