Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant reviews highlight buildings managed by Thomas Shiu having mixed perceptions. Tenants appreciate the convenient locations and responsive landlords. However, several buildings face challenges with pest control issues such as roaches, mice, and sometimes rats, impacting the overall living experience negatively. Some reviews also mention maintenance issues like leaking ceilings, poor garbage management, and insufficient heating during winter months. It’s what you get for Chinatown
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location is greatand the apartment I am in faces west (natural sun in the afternoon).
Cons:
Small apartment with piping showing but that’s usually how some Chinatown apartments are. A lot of bugs (gnats, sliverfish, spiders, and flies), cracks around the walls, no closet, small bathroom with window however, it faces near a smelly sewer area, garbage needs lids and smelly hallway area. Very little heat during the winter months and the landlord will gaslight you if you bring any problems to her. I do not recommend this building.
Advice to owner:
Please seal the cracks for the next tenant, there’s a lot of bugs coming through the cracks and do something about the garbage area. Also fix your attitude. Your building is old, we get it but if you’re going to do repairs, be reasonable with the a schedule

It’s cute. Mice & roaches were not
Former Tenant
Pros:
Great location, nice landlord, quiet and kind neighbors, great light, landlord gave us furniture when we moved in
Cons:
German cockroach problem, mice, leaking ceiling and pipe
Advice to owner:
Deal with pests better, maintain stairs and hallways too

Not terrible but...
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice landlady. Diverse and nice neighbors, everyone keeps to themselves.
Cons:
Infestation - roaches, mice, sometimes a rat or two. Smokers in building. Sways and shakes when heavy trucks pass.
Advice to owner:
Get it inspected for structural safety, exterminate for vermin.
