Beware of owner
Pros
I liked the building before it sold
Cons
Advertising illegal basement rooms as bedrooms When I lived in this building there was an issue with German roaches, extreme heat on the basement level rooms which were/are actually not legally able to be listed as bedrooms but are advertised as such. Also the living room window on the ground floor simply fell out. It was held in place with duct tape until it could be replaced which took some time, so so much for feeling safe. Paper thin walls Great location, but moved out because the owner at the time increased the rent by 55% as a scare tactic to get residents to move out without contestation.
Advice to the owners
Be a human
Sad decline in living conditions
Pros
The building has a lot of promise. The area is great. The apartment, which has roof access, has really appealing features.
Cons
The heat literally didn't work for weeks at a time this past winter and they clearly couldn't figure out what it was. The hot water also didn't work for several stretches. Once you complain enough, the Super and the assigned support folks do try, but ultimately they are hamstrung by the fact that management clearly doesn't care. I had been there for 3 years and paid rent on time every month, and yet when I actually had an issue, getting it fixed was a nightmare.
Advice to the owners
Modernize the building. It's absurd to pay ~$4k a month for something that has heat, hot water, trash, and rodent problems. I get that you don't want to spend money to fix things, but ultimately the boiler in this building is shot and the heating system is old, you need to upgrade. Also answer your f*****g emails and support tickets. I don't enjoy complaining to an anonymous portal. If you just respond I think you'll find tenants are quite reasonable.
