Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant feedback for Larry Malitlky's buildings, particularly at 159 Eastern Pkwy, Brooklyn, reveals mixed experiences. The location is consistently praised for convenience and proximity to transit and amenities. Some residents appreciate the building's charm and size of apartments. However, management responsiveness is a common concern, with many citing slow or inadequate communication from the owner and superintendents. Pest issues, including roaches and bedbugs, are frequently reported despite extermination efforts. Noise from neighbors and the subway is another recurring complaint, along with occasional cleanliness and garbage management problems. Overall, expect a well-located building with persistent maintenance and management challenges.

Good apartment for the price

Pros

I quite enjoyed living here especially with the location. I did not have any bad pest issues as i only saw a few cockroaches when i first moved in, but i did live on a higher floor and am a tidy tentant. The butterfly entrance pad was convenient.

Cons

The walls are thin and i could hear my neighbors, especially my upstairs neighbor so beware if you are sensitive. I think my upstairs neighbor could drop a pin on the floor and i could hear it

Disgusting building with roaches, bedbugs, and smoke, in a great location

Pros

- Amazing location - Beautiful, grand old building - Big apartments for the price/neighborhood - Many neighbors are nice people - Super is helpful when you can get in touch with him and when he decides to actually come - Elevator - Decent appliances

Cons

- Super rarely responds to texts - Owner is hard to get in touch with (they never check voicemails and have no official email; emailing individual employees is usually the best bet) - Bedbugs throughout the building, neighbors are not responsible and haven't cooperated with exterminators to eliminate them for over a year now - Lots and lots of roaches - Building not kept up very well, frequently dirty common areas/basement - Anything nonessential in your unit (e.g. fridge or cabinets) will never be fixed if it breaks - People in the building smoke and it will seep through the floors - Packages often get stolen - everyone knows who the package thief is, he has relatives in the building, but nobody will do anything about it - Slow elevators - Landlord's leasing agent is dishonest - Can hear/feel the subway going by

Advice to the owners

Sell this beautiful building to someone who can actually take care of it.
