Lived here for 3 years and experienced it all
Pros
Excellent location, the super was a great guy, and I liked that all the apartments were studios because it meant it was generally a quiet building (until an NYU student moved above me)
Cons
Horrible, unresponsive management. When they were responsive they were incredibly rude. They weren't willing to give out an email address so I couldn't send them notices of habitability except via mail. To start, the apartment hadn't been cleaned between renters. Next, a family of mice moved in and management was so unhelpful that I had to kill and dispose of all 5 mice by myself (and then pay for a cleaner to come in afterwards by myself). Some pests along the way - I probably killed 5 roaches and 50 or so waterbugs throughout my 3 years there (maybe that isn't horrible - but compared to other places I've lived it was bad). I also had a horrible plumbing issue at one point. Black gunk erupted out of my sink (truly erupted like a volcano) and got all over my kitchen. It must've been a backup of grease, etc. from years of renters. It smelled horrible and I had to stay with a friend for a couple of nights because management wouldn't send someone to fix it for a few days. Finally, my last year living there I had an NYU student move in upstairs. He constantly had friends over after midnight on weeknights and was generally up at all hours. This was just unlucky on my part - not management's fault - but something to be aware of for any future renters. The proximity to NYU makes it a candidate for students whose parents are willing to pay for them to live alone.
Solid cheap building in the east village
Pros
Large apartments, solid space
Cons
Heat pipes clang a lot. Apartments arent cleaned between tenants. Property manager is MIA
