    On living here...

    Pros:
    Great location, very responsive super
    Cons:
    Building can look very unkempt in hallways, lots of elderly who still live in rent-controlled housing that don’t maintain their apt and attract pests like mice, owner can be very bizarre and takes it personally when you negotiate with him- he will unreasonably try to hike the rent up after your first year living there
    Advice to owner:
    Fair rent pricing, maintain building better, fix up the units more

    Pros:
    There's not much going for this building. Nothing comes to mind.
    Cons:
    -Mice INFESTATION! You will have daily visits from my mice, they come in despite all caulking and other preventative measures. -the super is a lazy piece of work, does not actually live in the building and does not care about the tenants. Poignant anecdote: an elderly woman, a tenant of 30-40+ years, whose brother pays their rent, was clearly not well, not keeping up with cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. Another tenant reached out to Adult Protective Services on the woman's behalf, the landlord and super made no efforts to followup on cleanliness or assistance for the tenant. The tenant was discovered dead in the apartment just yesterday and the tremendous stench emanating from her corpse now fills the entire apartment building including every apartment in the building. -the super and landlord will gaslight you! They will actively lie to you, will only communicate over phone or in person i.e. only ways that leave no physical trace or evidence. They know how bad they are doing and they've resorted to performing a cover-up at this point. -I overhead the Super yelling at a tenant who was seeking pest removal services. He stood outside their door with the exterminator, who confirmed the presence of mice throughout the entire building, yelling "liar" over and over again. Odd thing for a non-live-in super to do.
