Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Tenant reviews for 229 East 12 Street praise its prime East Village location, elevator, in-building laundry, and generally responsive supers, contributing to a quiet atmosphere and good neighbors. However, persistent issues with pest infestations (rats, mice, cockroaches), package theft, and poor management responsiveness have been repeatedly noted. Heating can be unreliable, and some units lack sunlight or have small spaces. Cleanliness and garbage management vary, with some citing foul lobby odors and sanitation citations. Rent increases are a concern for some, and several tenants emphasize the need for improved management and building maintenance to enhance tenant satisfaction.

Great first post-grad apartment
Former Tenant
Pros:
Laundry downstairs, great live-in supers and responsive building management company, trash room is clean, supers very willing to fix problems quickly, nice little mail room, quiet building especially in the back, great neighbors
Cons:
the hallways are a bit ugly but classic pre-war building vibes; the apartments are nice but tiny (at least our 3BR was), packages would get stolen sometimes, it has a lot of young people which was fun for us but would probably be annoying to older people / families
Advice to owner:
keep the heat on higher!!! it was so freezing last year until we complained enough
