Don’t be fooled by the in unit W/D
Pros
In unit W/D’s existence Proximity to better neighborhoods (gramercy, flatiron, etc) and Madison square park Decent sized closets/fair amount of storage High ceilings Friendly neighbors and sense of community Wood burning fireplace is unique and can be cozy in the winter
Cons
Owned by slumlord Steve Croman and building is currently in foreclosure Management nonexistent and nonresponsive In unit W/D barely washes the clothes — always tons of suds even after adding an extra rinse cycle and using less soap; due to how small the closet the W/D is in, can’t physically remove the detergent drawer to clean it Dishwasher is only a half size Paper thin walls Railroad style apartment = odd layout Occasional roach in bathroom due to poor caulking of shower and around toilet Building is across the street from a bar and some units bedrooms face the street—lots of noise from sirens/honking cars/bar Virtual doorman and have had package thefts Front door to building isn’t locked and have had occasional homeless people in vestibule
Good building/apt but terrible owners
Pros
Friendly quiet neighbors, good location, renovated units have new appliances, ours has a working fireplace
Cons
The responsiveness of the management company is dismal, it requires several tries to get something fixed, hearing is not adequate we had to get space heaters
